There are many ways to harmonize a song, this is just one example.

When teaching yourself the harmony, I suggest:

1. Sing against just the harmony in the left ear (without the original in the right)
2. Sing with both ears in
3. Test your knowledge by removing the left and singing the harmony against the original in the right ear
