What I learned from increasing my salary from $59K to $115K over the span of 7 years:
⭐️ Job hop every few years to progress in your career, learn something new, and get 10-30% increases.
⭐️ Always negotiate your salary with the recruiter (something I regret not doing). You can do this by:
1. Finding out the market salary for your field and use that as leverage when negotiating
2. Using another offer or your current salary as leverage to justify getting a higher salary
3. If the recruiter won’t budge on the salary, try to negotiate something else like your annual bonus or a sign-on bonus
⭐️ It’s much easier to switch careers/industries while you’re young than when you are older with more experience in one field. So don’t be afraid to try out different jobs when you’re young!
⭐️ Internal transfers are super easy because the company can save on training costs since you are already familiar with your company. It’s especially good if you have a good network of friends within the same company that can vouch for you.
⭐️ In order to get good raises/promotions, think about the value you can provide to your company and lean into your strengths (mine was automation/process improvements)
