Styling traditional pieces in modern ways

one of my favourite things to style is by repurposing my traditional pieces into wearable day to day outfits that’s suitable for everyday! not only is that more sustainable and expands my outfit options, i get more use out of an outfit that usually will only be used 1-2 times a year.

the key to styling traditional pieces to make them suitable for daily wear is to tone it down. the best and easiest way to do is by pairing it with neutral tone pieces so the traditional piece can be the highlight of the outfit. you can also use other colours, but if your traditional piece is patterned, its best to stick to solid tones - preferably similar to the colours available in the pattern.

in this outfit, i’m pairing this beautiful kurta with white cotton wide pants. i chose white to match the light colours on the kurta pattern. the cotton design makes the outfit look more relaxed and casual. since the kurta is long, wearing tight pants may make me look shorter, so i opted for wide legged to elongate my height. the open toe heels also elongates my legs, making me look taller. since the kurta is already heavily patterned, i kept both my shoes and pants a solid tone to let the kurta be the statement of the outfit.
