tips for those on accutane!

i am now on my third course of accutane (medical term: isotretinoin). it is a drug that is used for serious acne, which other medical treatments are unable to subside. isotret comes in many different brandings such as accutane, oratane (the one i am taking). even though the names are different, they are all ultimately the same thing. since this drug is used as a last resort treatment, it is not available over the counter and requires a prescription from a dermatologist.

being on isotret is not something to be taken lightly as if used inappropriately, it can cause serious damage. the most important thing while on isotret is NOT to get pregnant as it can cause birth defects, so ladies be sure that youre not trying to conceive.

once you start the medication, there is a high possibility of purging which can last up to 1-2 months, before the skin starts to clear up. it can be quite demoralizing to see your face get worse that it was before starting the medication, but trust the process, you won’t be disappointed. (coming from someone who has seen results in previous rounds) in the carousel, i have shared my few DOs and DONTs while on the drug. when i was first on isotret, no one told me what to do and i was so clueless. so, i hope that this post can be of help to those who are already on isotret or are considering to take it on.
