Here’s my ultimate Seoul travel guide if you are tired of tourist places and want to try something new. I promise you that all these places are tried and tested, so they are 100% good!! I would go back to these places again if I were to head to Seoul again! Now let’s get down to it 😃

01 IB BUNSIK

This is a hidden gem because it’s only know to locals. Thanks to one of my husband friend, Yoon, she’s the one that brought us here. Super thankful! They specialises in Tteobokki that are true to the local taste. You can choose your spice level and we got the Medium because we are not confident if we can take the spiciness of Koreans haha they are good with it. Super chewy and tender. You can choose between pork or beef as well. I love how the store owner also taught us how to enjoy this dish to the fullest. Apparently you can order the seaweed rice ball and all you have to do is drip the Tteobokki sauce on top of the rice ball and BOOM, you have a brand new dish that’s SO SO tasty.

02 HWANG GOB at HONGDAE

This place is located along the main street of Hongdae where you can see people dancing and singing at night. We love Hongdae because their night culture is truly one of a kind. So they sell gopchang here which is grilled beef intestines if I’m not wrong. They also serve really delicious side dishes such as seafood soup and green onion kimchi which I had second servings. Also, one thing to shout about is the quality of ingredients because you can actually taste the freshness when then food doesn’t have any bad taste. Definitely one of the best place to catch up with friends with Soju and bbq. Love it 😍

03 CAFE ONION

Some locals might say that this is a tourist cafe but there’s a lot of locals that also frequent this place for a cup of coffee and a plate of pastries. I love how this cafe is housed in a traditional Korean Hanoi which allows you to be in the present with history. They have more than 20 kinds of pastries, bread and cake so you’re gonna be spoilt for choices. Do ask the staff what they recommended because I got something normal. Also do avoid peak period like weekends or lunch on weekdays because the waiting time for dine in can be up to 1 hour.

04 GWANGJANG MARKET

The famous Korean market right after Street Food on Netflix was aired. There’s a lot of vendor here that sells similar food so it’s good to do some research before heading to a stall. We got the soup noodles from the Netflix auntie who freshly cut and boil all the noodles in her stall. AND THE KIMCHI MANDU? WOAH that’s a flavour that I’ll never forget. Super flavourful dumplings. She’s super friendly and of course she knows some English thanks to all the foreigners patrons. MUST-HAVE!

05 SAMCHEONGDONG SUJEBI

This Michelin hand-pulled dough soup was actually recommended by one of my husband’s cousin who went there before covid. It was a taste the cousin could not forget so we had to try it. As expected, there was a long queue outside even though it was 2-3pm which was way past lunch time. The restaurant is super fast-paced and do ask for an English menu if you’re having a hard time ordering. I’ll recommend getting the big bowl to share because we realised that the small bowl was not enough. Their hand-pulled dough (MEE HUN KUEH in SG) was one of the smoothest I ever tasted and the soup? You could taste that it was boiled for hours to get a soup that’s so flavourful yet light on the palette. Get their Kimchi pancake too!
