I’m coming to the end of my final year and I felt like this would be a good share to everyone who may by entering or are already in Poly. Here’s how my experience has been like and some of my thoughts and advices 🙆🏻‍♀️

1. Choosing The Right Friends 👭🏻

I have to say that in Poly, especially with all the changes in classes, I jumped around different group of friends. I learned that the people you think that may be a good friend, does not necessarily mean that they will be a good group mate. In fact, I chose to be friends with people who are good group mates because I feel that that they respect my well-being as a student and its healthier as we would work hard and play hard together. And I’m very thankful to have found that group of people :”) There’s a stigma of business students being toxic, but I think toxic people are everywhere, it’s really just who you decide to mix with at the end of the day – who you decide to drop or hold.

2. Crying While Studying 😭📚

There are instances where it was really tough for group projects. And that’s why I mentioned to make friends with good group mates and stick with them. Because if you know that everyone is making an effort and working hard, you wouldn’t feel alone and you wouldn’t have to do more than 1 person’s worth of work. Good group mates does not mean people who are smart or in the Director’s List. Fun fact, they may not always be the best people to group with (if they are individualists) but you know for sure that they will do the task well. A good group mate is one that is willing to help and contribute.

There may be times when you carry a task or project, but you will feel that it’s worth it as you’re carrying someone who has already put in the effort, rather than a freeloader. If you’re someone who’s unluckily grouped with a freeloader, and if it means that you have to cry while studying, just do it and fight through it because it’s for your grades. It was mentally tiring for me but I would just pick the right people the next time. Always remember not to overstress and reward yourself (it does help, be it a good meal, snack or cheat day). With the right people, I managed to achieve a GPA 4.0 for Year 2 (it’s not always about who’s smart because I’m not one of those born smart – I got a L1R4 of 19?) and anything is possible. Do your individual assignment well, work with the right people, do your best and it’ll be fine!

Hopefully this helps or even inspires any of you, feel free to comment any advices or thoughts you have ~ ❤️
