budget eats – episode 1 🍴

in the first episode of budget eats, we bring you to the northeast – hougang! the food court in hougang mall has recently renovated and it honestly looks like a very atas food court now. 😂 the good thing is, the fish soup store that i frequent when i was young is still there! it’s chai’s original sliced fish soup ✨

🐟 double fish steamboat with rice ($8)

this is my go-to whenever i order fish soup. and this store serves it in steamboat style! the fried and sliced fish are both soft and tender, and the soup is rich and fragrant. you don’t have to worry about getting rid of the fish skin because they have already removed it for you!

🍳 floss fried egg ($1.50)

you don’t usually find this at fish soup stores, but they have floss fried egg as well! you can either eat it dry or dump it in the soup to make it even more flavourful.

🐟 sliced fish soup with thick beehoon ($5)

this is another favourite to order! the thick beehoon was springy and had a nice bite to it. the soup was also flavourful despite not adding the fried egg. the portion was really generous for a $5 bowl of fish soup.

please try it when you’re at hougang mall! it’s located at level 4 food court. guaranteed to not disappoint! ☺️
