Hi guys, recently I attended a lecture about the employment act in Singapore. Here are some key points, that I want to share with you:

🔹Employment Act (Singapore's main labor law).

• STANDARDS for work hours, leave, medical benefits, and termination.

• Student is also protected by this act

• Terms and benefits cannot be lower than provided in the employment act!

• Full-time employee: max. 44 hours a week.

• Overtime should be paid at least 1.5x more

🚩 Red flags 🚩

• Termination notice exceeds the norm of 1-2 months

• Salary deduction - absence from work, damaged goods/equipment, contribution to charity, etc (employment act has strict rules on % that can be deducted)

• Non-compete clause - restriction from working for another company in the same industry - it is not enforceable by law

• IP rights - the norm for the employer to own rights to works that you develop on the job. Should not extend to work that you produce outside of work hours.
