apple accessories: magic mouse/trackpad • worth? 🖱️

I’ve had the magic mouse for yearrrss now, about 10 years to be exact, and I really can’t see myself ever switching back to regular mouse! however it’s been dying on me due to its old age so I got the trackpad instead of a new magic mouse. Here’s why!

𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘 𝙢𝙤𝙪𝙨𝙚 ($99.90) — what’s so good about it compared to other mouse?

✧ aesthetics: super clean and sleek, very minimalist design.

✧ aside aesthetics: FUNCTION. normal mouse can only scroll up and down. this mouse and scroll ACROSS!

❓how do you scroll without any buttons or scroll wheel on it? : the surface is almost like a mini trackpad for you to scroll vertically or horizontally 🔛🔝

✧ what it lacks: zooming in. i have to use command +/- to zoom or use laptop trackpad

which leads me to..

𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙘 𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙠𝙥𝙖𝙙 ($170.55)

✧ can zoom!!!! now i can move across or zoom into art boards with just one hand instead!

✧ function wise it’s exactly like a macbook trackpad

✧ however it uses less pressure to click compared to macbook which leads to less finger cramping!

while the laptop has its own trackpad i find my wrist cramping after a while of long use due to the awkward placement

if you have macbook, you don’t really need the trackpad. however if you have imac(or intend to get), trackpad is v worth!

which would be better for you really depends what you are going to use it for, and where.

portability: magic mouse 💯; it’s p troublesome to carry the trackpad around

👩‍🎨creative work: i’d say trackpad! anything that involves the need to zoom in or out, trackpad is better.

🔇sound (silence): trackpad! magic mouse has a loud click and makes a sound as it slides across the table

other comparisons:

trackpad is matte while magic mouse is glossy (at least for mine, not sure about the new ones) so the glossy one does look unsightly after getting scratched up.

🔋 both charge w usbc which takes abt 1h! and lasts 2-3 months even if never turned off. mouse charges from below, which people find is a design flaw but actually it’s not. it’s to prevent you from using it while it charges~ :)

connection is instant: just click (if it’s already on), or just switch it on and it’ll instantly connect. 🏃‍♂️

while i use the trackpad for the bulk of everything now, i do find myself wanting to go back to mouse for tedious and heavy editing/lots of clicking needed (like for hours) i.e. illustration bc the finger will still cramp despite the magic trackpad needing less force/pressure. also bc there’s nothing for my fingers to rest on (floats in the air(??) whereas i can rest my hand on top of the mouse! 🖱️ but i can totally live without the mouse and only use the trackpad too.

ultimately both have pros and cons! it really depends which is more important to you 🤭
