so you wanna thrift in Paris, but you don’t have a lot of time OR you don’t wanna commit to ONE store that’s an hour long round trip from the main city at the risk of leaving empty handed. i gotchu! 💋💋

on my recent trip to Paris, I was determined to thrift. BUT it was a family trip and i only had a couple of solo hours to myself, which meant i needed to be able to hit AS MANY stores as possible within a SHORT amount of time. after doing some research, I stumbled across the raved about, MUST VISIT thrifting haven Les Marais. (p.s. I went alone and it was very manageable)

Les Marais, specifically Rue de la Verrerie, is a highly concentrated, very short street of thrift shops on both sides. think haji lane vibes but ✨Parisian💃🏻. I managed to hit 4-5 shops in slightly under 3 hours!! 💅🏻

🛍 shop 1 (2 & 3?) • FREE ‘P’ STAR

when you get to the street, the first and easiest shop to locate will be Free ‘P’ Star. there’s like 3 of these under the same name (and I’m guessing the same owner bc I saw people just walking in and out, hopping to the next door outlet while the security alarm blared and I stared in confused Singaporean), all selling slightly different items at difference price points. the vibe of the shop in general is quite spunky, fun patterns, lots of jackets, good mix of masculine & feminine items.

🌟 Free ‘P’ Star (1):

- the first outlet had more casual pieces, focusing on shirts, coats, fur coats, leather jackets, some longer dresses. very general. mixed bag of items.

- the prices were anywhere from 6€ to 60€

- they also had this huge 1€ bin in the corner that’s just a pile of clothes. you can definitely find gold in there, but you’re gonna have to commit to the dig. and people were DIGGING. on a budget? start here.

🌟 Free ‘P’ Star (2):

- right next to the first outlet. the decor in this shop is a little edgier and spunkier. more masculine pieces like patterns collared shirts, polos, leather jackets, leather vests, statement pieces.

- price range is a little higher, looked like anywhere between 20€ - 70€, which isn’t that bad considering the collection

- I saw a rly cute vintage leather Harley Davidson vest but didn’t leave with it in the end bc I rmbed SG heat 😭😭😭

🌟 Free ‘P’ Star (3):

- across from these two outlets, is the third one. sporting a much smaller store space, is a concentrated collection of jackets. so many jackets! sports jackets, leather jackets, bomber jackets, those 80s vibrant windbreakers.

- I wish I could remember the price range but tbh I did a quick lap around it and walked out because a lot of the pieces reminded me of 2010s fashion with sprinkles of throwbacks to my thrifting days in Poly HAHAHA

🛍 shop 4 • Jac De Marques

- this shop is a Luxury Outlet, meaning if you’re on a budget, please avoid. carrying brands such as Burberry, Kooples, Polo Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger, Furla.. it goes on. I could’ve spent all day in here but.. my wallet & I made a pact 😵‍💫💸💸

- there are items in every genre from bags to coats to shoes…

- price range is anywhere from 70€ - 300€ (or higher) which sounds expensive but if you’re a vintage luxury hunter, this place is GOLD. it’s also comforting to know France has strict no-counterfeit laws, although I always recommend you do your own due diligence and check your pieces.

- I walked away with 2 vintage Burberry trench coats in amazing condition, and a denim skirt from Paul & Joe.

🛍 shop 5 • KILO SHOP Kawaii

- an erratic collection of statement pieces and beautifully patterned items, this shop sells items by weight.

- carries corsets, jackets, knitted sweaters, denim, corduroy. I found this place the least intimidating to walk into bc it didn’t have that dark neon European clubbing aesthetic HAHAHA.. if you have to bring your parents along with you… try this place 🫡

- price range is hard to gauge since it is by weight. but it seemed pretty affordable, just be intentional with your items.

📍location:

63 Rue de la Verrerie, 75004 Paris, France.

Google Maps is your BESTIE. they’re all located along Rue de la Verrerie, so I recommend typing in the address for Jac De Marques (the one above) as there are a few Free ‘P’ Star outlets around Paris.

PLEASE take the metro, the street is too small for taxis to get into (think haji lane). I found the closest metro stations to be Chatelet and Hotel De Ville. both extremely walkable. Chatelet is abit more accessible from other lines so it was my preferred station, but Hotel De Ville is literally 2 mins from the street.

Paris is a very walkable city, don’t be scared. just make sure you take note of the right metro exits, and hold your phone close to your body CONFIDENTLY. almost all the locals had their hands and eyes glued to their phones while walking, so don’t be worried about looking like a lost tourist. you’ll blend in.

☁️ overall thoughts:

as someone with limited time, this street was a good sample of thrifting in Paris. the prices are quite affordable and the vibes are fine once you shake off your initial intimidation! when thrifting on a time crunch, i always go in already having target pieces in mind: e.g. leather jacket, a denim skirt, etc… if you go in with no target, you may end up spending a lot more time in one store than you can afford. rmb to always check for defects before purchase! be prepared that the staff don’t speak English, but fret not, you’ll survive with hand gestures and contextual cues 🥸👍🏼

et voilà! that’s all from me 😗🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 do you have any other thrifting secrets for when in Paris? lemme know! and please feel free to ask questions, I’ll do my best to answer them. happy thrifting xx 💋
