BEST MATCHA BINGSU IN SEOUL & UNMATCHED ZEN VIBE

If y’all are still adding Osulloc to your Korea itinerary, please replace it with T.NOMAD(티.노마드) instead (and spare yourself from subpar matcha)! T.Nomad is located in Mangwon (near hongdae), and truly what you would call a hidden gem!!

Tucked away on the 2nd floor of a building, it’s definitely not a place you’d notice if you stroll down the street. I stayed at Mangwon for 1-2 weeks, and never realised it existed until I searched for matcha desserts on Naver 😂 it’s really popular with locals though, and a reservation is needed to dine here (more on that later)!

For real, I had never experienced a tea house like this!

🧘🏻‍♀️THE ZEN VIBES WERE UNRIVALED

Stepping into the warmly lit cafe, I was first greeted by a video projection of leaves rustling slowly against the sun. The space was also filled with a woody incense fragrance (which I suspect could be off-putting for some), and accompanied by what I thought was Tibetan meditation music in the background.

The seating was eclectic, but there were enough elevated wooden platforms with seat cushions to complete the zen vibe.

🍵 FETCH YOUR OWN HOT WATER FROM AN URN

There’s an urn filled with hot water in the middle of the tea house, and you’ll need to use a wooden ladle to scoop water into your teapot if you want a refill.

The set up was reminiscent of a temple and I really enjoyed this novel experience LOL.

🤤 THE FOOD - SO GOOD!!

I overordered, because everything looked too goood and they served things that I didn’t think I would easily come across again in Korea! Here are what I ordered and would also absolutely recommend!!

• TEA SET FOR 1 (18,000won/ 18sgd):

I was so impressed by the craft that went into creating each item in the set - not only did all of them taste good, but each had a distinct flavour and texture that made it really fun to eat (e.g. matcha gateau vs red bean jelly cake vs chocolate mochi)!! And because the flavours were so well balanced, I devoured them all without feeling sick from all that sugar.

You can also choose your choice of tea - I chose houjicha and it was the first time I realised that plain houjicha tea could taste so good?? It’s like, houjicha on steroids and I loved the fragrance!! Can’t believe I had only been drinking houjicha lattes prior to that.

• MATCHA BINGSUUU (14,000won/ 14sgd):

Truly the BEST matcha bingsu I have had!! The bingsu flakes were sooo soft and fluffy, the matcha was strong and earthy, and it wasn’t too sweet!!

Not gonna lie, it was definitely too big a portion for 1 pax (especially after an entire tea set) - but was it worth tasting that? Definitely. 🥲
