How Much I Make Working in Higher Education? 🤓🎓

The number question that I get is what do I do for work? I am currently working as a Student Affairs Advisor at a public university and I think it is important to be transparent about my salary.

Working in higher education is not the most lucrative career choice but it was something that I always wanted to do since I was in college, I always had an interest in working with college students. Higher education is a diverse field with a variety of jobs in different departments across campuses. I went to graduate school to get my master’s in higher education leadership and after graduating, I was fortunate enough to be able to find a job right after.

This is my first full-time job in higher education and I have been at this job for almost two years, I first started at $22 an hour which would be about $46,000 a year then after being at this job for a year, I was given a raise of $26 an hour which would be an estimated of $54,000 a year. For this raise, I did take on more responsibilities and did more than what my starting position initially wanted.

I am currently coming to my second anniversary at this job and I got a small raise of $27 an hour which would amount to about $56,000 as my yearly salary. I am very grateful for the raises that I have received and I think they are well deserved with the amount of work and responsibilities that I have taken on and completed.
