Navigating A 1st Date Without Awkward Silences 🤫

Hello my fellow lemons!🥰

If you're finding love online, it can be daunting during your 1st meetup cause you might be worried about awkward silences 😬

So I'm here to share how I navigated through that (met lots of ppl from online b4 & most ask me to meet again +got bfs within 2 mths of using it although I'm not super pretty. so I'm guessing it must be cause the convo went well haha)

Here's some convo ideas for you in case you're worried about awkward silences:

1. 𝐅𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬

- eg. Food, movie/dramas, song, celebs/ influencers, games, countries to travel

- 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵: Asking them why so, & sharing any related news u heard about these things they shared & your opinions

- 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: Try to only stick with positive opinions or not overly negative ones because your date might get offended if you criticized sth they really like & think you're not suitable for them b4 seeing the rest of your personality

2. 𝐓𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐩𝐩 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐬

- eg. Ask if they met anyone else on the app & what their experience was like or what topics they talked about

- 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵: Can branch into the topic about whether they are an introvert or extrovert + share your own creepy/ happy experiences on the app

- 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: Idk if this topic will be too straightforward but u can even ask if there's anyone they think they might be interested in right now/met a few times already

3. 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐬𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠

- eg. What u shld wear for an event or what u can buy for your mum as a gift

- 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: one thing to not ask their opinion about is maybe if you like them & wanna get them something, do not ask "if I like a girl, what present do you think I should give them" because:

a. It might backfire if they think you're refering to someone else instead & give up on you even if they think the chemistry between you guys have been good so far

b. Even if they think you're refering to them, some girls might not like that you're moving too fast

4. 𝐇𝐨𝐛𝐛𝐢𝐞𝐬

- eg. Exercise, singing, eating, watching netflix, drawing, cooking, gardening

- 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝘂𝗽 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵: sharing your own hobby, asking if they're talented in it & if you can see images of their hobbies or asking about things they don't like to do instead

- 𝗔𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲: Try not to say sleeping cause there's little room for the topic to continue. If you guys have similar hobbies or you wanna try something that is their hobby too, it can be your next date idea!

𝐓𝐨𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐯𝐨𝐢𝐝:

1. Babies or marriage

2. Politics or sensitive issues

3. Exes

- this one is a more intimate topic that some may not be comfy to share on a 1st date

- but if you are talking about this, you can follow up with asking why they broke up (but add in the line that they don't have to share if they're not comfy talking about it to show you respect them)

𝐆𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞:

- Be open to sharing about yourself! If you start a topic, make sure its something you're open to share about too. If not it might seem like you're hiding something & they might not wanna share either, making it a bit awkward for both parties.

- Sense the topics that the person might not be interested in & move on. Don't ramble on because they might zone out & think "when will he/she stop talking"🫠

- Ppl generally like talking about themselves more than learning about others, so if you want someone to like you or be interested in the conversation, ask about them.

- Some praises are cringy (eg. If they're wearing a low cut top that can see their cleavage, try not to say their top looks good, because they might think you're a pervert)😂

- Avoid switching between topics too abruptly to avoid appearing random. A convo is a skill whereby you can link what the other party is talking about with something you know or another topic.
