How to prepare for & CRUSH any interview 👩🏻‍💻

I used to be HORRIBLE at interviews. I’d get SO nervous, stumble and ramble trying to talk about my experience 🥵 That is until I started creating INTERVIEW STUDY GUIDES. These helped me SO much and helped me kill it at multiple super days (ie. 4+ hrs of interviews in one day). I became so much more confident and was able to land offers at JP Morgan, Amazon, Expedia and more. Even though I’m taking a break from corporate right now, I wanted to share these tips for anyone who is recruiting for their next role! 💛👩🏻‍💻

HOW TO MAKE AN INTERVIEW STUDY GUIDE:

The point of this study guide is to prepare yourself for any question that they’ll throw your way.

1️⃣ Create a list of types of behavioral questions that you need to prepare to answer. Here are some common topics:

- Biggest achievement / biggest failure or mistake

- Working with others – collaboration, disagreements, etc

- Your strengths/weaknesses

- Making decisions under pressure

- Balancing priorities/conflicting tasks

2️⃣ For each one of these categories, quickly list any examples that come to mind

3️⃣ Go back and visit each example in detail. Outline the example in the STAR method:

- S: Situation – Set the scene and give quick context

- T: Task – What your responsibility was in that situation

- A: Action – The EXACT steps you took to address it

- R: Result – What outcomes your actions achieved

4️⃣ Prepare for the additional following questions:

- Tell me about yourself – 1min pitch

- Why you want this role / company

- What questions do you have for me?

I’m not gonna lie, this “study guide” can be time intensive to make. But it is INCREDIBLY helpful. As I progress in my career, I’ve kept building this guide. By keeping this running list, it makes it so much easier to remember all the different examples I have under my belt.
