Costs of raising kids in SG🫣

Singapore is becoming an increasingly expensive country to live in, and I hear of so many who are choosing to have less children because of the costs.

From my personal experience, I feel that although SG is getting more expensive, the government has also subsidised a lot of services for parents, so it’s actually not as expensive as it seems!

For example, when giving birth there’s a choice between a private and public hospital, and the cost varies greatly! The great thing about SG is that you can use your medisave to offset both private and public , not limited to public hospitals only.

For childcare, you can choose between a private one that’s about 2k a month or a public one with more subsidies! As they grow, things like enrichment classes and tuition are all optional costs as well. The actual school fees for primary onwards is really low like less than $20 per month!

However, the downside of living in SG is probably societal pressure to sign your kids up for extra classes or to choose a private childcare, or throw lavish birthday parties, and multiple holidays in a year etc because so many are doing it. And of course there’s nothing wrong with all these things, every parent would want to give their children as much as they can.

What I’m trying to say is that if you’re considering having kids, this lifestyle is not the only option. End of the day it’s really personal preference in regards to how much you want to spend on raising kids! Not everything you see online is necessary❤️
