hello!! it’s been a while since i last did a japan post hehe. today i’m gonna be teaching you guys some basic phrases that you can use for your next trip!! so save this for future reference and let’s goo~
before we start, let’s go over some pronunciation basics! so there’s a common misconception that です (de su) and ます(ma su) are pronounced like they’re spelled, but it’s actually pronounced “des” and “mas” respectively! many japanese phrases include these characters so just take note ^.^
(btw, i didn’t copy and paste this from any website ok i typed out everything horr 😤😤)
1. greetings
よろしくお願いします (yo ro shi ku onega i shi ma su) - nice to meet you
こんにちは (kon ni chi wa) - hello/good afternoon
おはようございます (o ha yo u go za i ma su) - good morning
こんばんは (ko n ba n wa) - good evening
おやすみなさい (o ya su mi na sa i) - good night
2. courtesy
すみません (su mi ma se n) - sorry/excuse me
お願いします (o nega i shi ma su) - please
ありがとうございます (a ri ga to u go za i ma su) - thank you (formal/polite)
どういたしましいて (do u i ta shi ma shi te) - you’re welcome
3. introducing yourself
私は (name) です (watashi wa
日本人ではありません (ni hon jin de wa a ri ma se n) - i am not japanese
日本語が話せません (ni hon go ga hana se ma se n) - i cannot speak japanese
英語が話せますか (ei go ga hana se ma su ka) - can you speak english?
4. ordering food
二人です (futa ri de su) - two people (essentially means table for two please)
これはいくらですか?(ko re wa i ku ra de su ka) - how much is this?
5. other essentials
これわなんですか? (ko re wa na n de su ka) - what is this?
トイレはどこですか? (to i re do ko de su ka) - where is the toilet
はい (ha i) - yes
いいえ (i i e) - no
okay and i just wanna add that i’ve only been learning japanese for a few months so i MIGHT have misspelled some characters but im 99% sure that the spelling and pronunciation is accurate.. but i REALLY REALLY hope this helps and like if it did 🥹🥹 try your best to learn these phrases because it might just save your life !!
