My Fall Travel Bucket List

It’s pumpkin season and fall is one of my favorite times to travel! The leaves are changing colors, the air is crisp, and there are so many beautiful places to visit.

This fall travel bucket list shares the best places to travel to in the autumn, both for fall foliage and also in the weeks leading up to Halloween.

🍁 Woodstock Vermont:

Woodstock

Reasons to Visit: Woodstock Vermont has gone viral for being one of the most charming towns to visit in the fall. This picture, perfect village has beautiful homes, colorful, fall foliage, cute, covered, bridges, and cozy vibes in every coffee, shop and restaurant.

When to Visit: Woodstock is usually best in mid October, which is usually when they experience peak foliage.

🍂 White Mountains, New Hampshire

Reasons to Visit: New Hampshire has some of the most beautiful fall colors I have ever seen. The White Mountains region has beautiful hikes for all levels of experience, scenic drives including the Kancamagus highway, and plenty of charming hotels to stay at.

When to Visit: New Hampshire’s fall foliage usually peaks in early October. So your best bet is to visit either on the first week of October or the second week of October.

Reasons to Visit: Salem, Massachusetts, is known as which city, and it’s one of my favorite places to visit leading up to Halloween.

Salem offers a mix of history, witchy, shopping, tarot, card, readers, and more. It has a fun and festive Halloween atmosphere all throughout October.

When to Visit: Salem is the most fun in October because everywhere is decorated for Halloween, and you’ll see a lot of people wearing witch outfits and other Halloween costumes. But if you’d like to avoid the crowds, go in September.

🎃 Sleepy Hollow, New York

Sleepy Hollow

Reasons to Visit: Sleepy Hollow and the surrounding areas has become the Halloween headquarters of New York State. The town itself is festive with decorations on the main street and fun stores to shop at.

There are plenty of spooky shows and events all throughout the month of October. You can visit the famous Sleepy Hollow cemetery for a late night lantern tour, or see a nighttime performance of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow at the late author’s home.

When to Visit: Sleepy Hollow is the most fun all throughout the month of October. Be sure to get advanced tickets for all of the events and performances you want to attend.

Manhattan, New York City

Manhattan

Reasons to Visit: New York City loves to celebrate Halloween. Throughout the month of October, there are plenty of Halloween pop-up bars, haunted houses, and other fun events to attend.

On the evening of Halloween, there is also the world famous Halloween parade, where you will see some of the best Halloween costumes of your life. You have to visit the parade at least once!

When to Visit: If you can, you should visit New York City on October 31 for the parade and then go to a Halloween party afterwards.
