Should you change your HDB laundry rack?

If you click into this post, you probably questioned yourself if it’s worth it to do so. After all, should you incur additional cost for it to be electrical instead of manual?

We changed the default HDB laundry rack to an electrical one since Day 1 when we moved in roughly a year ago, and here’s our honest opinions:

Both does the same job in utilising the ceiling to dry your laundry. The main difference honestly is the manual effort to lift it up and the additional functions.

Whichever brand you pick for your automated laundry system, it will typically with:

1. Electronic up/down - this saves you the manual effort in raising and lowering the drying rack. Pretty debatable if this is a revolutionary feature but it does eliminate the manual effort of doing so. A good point to note that due to the motors, it’s usually slower than manually pulling it up.

2. UV - if your service yard lacks natural sunlight, then this could be a pretty useful feature. It will remove any odours and sterilise your laundry.

3. Fan/heater - In my experience, even though I have this feature, I hardly use it. I’m blessed with good ventilation and sunlight in my service yard that may laundry dry quickly even without this feature. I probably used it less than 10x in a year - helps to save on electricity cost as using this feature draws a lot of electricity

If your service yard has good sunlight and ventilation (like me), you probably find yourself utilising most of the features rarely. If that’s the case, just opt for the cheapest one you can find without the extra premium features.
