I read 80 books 📖 in 2022 & 2023, and while I am practising mindful #reading this year and not focusing too much on the number of books I read, I want to share some tips on how I read an average of 6 books a month! 😙

🌻 1. 𝐎𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲

I am not a big non-fiction fan so I tend to skip those books, although they could be very popular/very good. Instead, I focus on reading books from genre that I actually enjoy- fantasy/fiction/mystery. I also don’t force myself to finish a book, because being stuck on a book that I don’t enjoy made me dread reading and sent me into a reading slump.

🌻 2. 𝐍𝐨 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝? 𝐆𝐨 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐮𝐝𝐢𝐨𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬

Audiobooks are life-changing! 😭 One major reason why I don’t read is because I don’t have time. I have to do household chores, go to work, hang out with friends, run errands, etc. Audiobooks are so amazing because I could listen to them as I’m doing mundane tasks. 🎧

I now greatly enjoy doing dishes 🍽️, laundry 🧺, cleaning the house 🧹, all because I could just put my headphone on and play an audiobook. Instead of listening to songs on my commute, I listen to an audiobook instead. When I’m running errands, I do the same! My favourite is to listen to audiobook before bed because it made me feel like a kid again when someone’s telling me a bedtime story. 🥱🌈

🌻 3. 𝐒𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐥𝐞 𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝

I used to block 4x 15-mins in my calendar to read everyday! I have a 15 mins block in the morning, during my lunch break, evening after work and then right before bed. 4x 15 mins is already an hour a day! ✨

🌻 4. 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐨𝐟 𝐬𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠

Instead of scrolling mindlessly on Instagram/TikTok, I read. This made me feel better because the less time I spend on social media, the less impact other people’s lives have on my emotion. I compare less and also less tempted to buy things that influencers are promoting online. ✨

While I still love social media, I now mostly use it to get book/game recommendation and useful tips! #Lemon8SG is perfect for scrolling because it has so many tips/recommendations #WhyILemon8

🌻 5. 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞

This is a habit that I have developed over the years! I make sure I carry a book with me everywhere I go because I just don’t know when I’ll have the opportunity to read. With audiobooks and ebooks, carrying books everywhere becomes so much easier. I always have my Kobo with me and on those days I don’t, I have my phone & earpiece which I can use to listen to Audiobooks on Libby. 🎧

Fun fact: I only buy bags that can fit my Kobo! 😅
