The only flight available for SQ was red-eye flight ✈️ departure time 1:40am for 5h20min. We reached early but check in time is 15:00hr so we left the luggages at concierge before walking exploring our area & had breakfast at McDonald in Hakata Canal City.
It was our first time to Fukuoka, known as “Ramen City” , “Silicone Valley of Japan” and travelling with group of 6 consisting of elderly & kids, I decided to engage a local guide, Ms Kazue, to assist in planning & tailor our itinerary. She arranged and planned various modes of transport 🚆 🚕 to our destination so we just followed her as she shared the rich history & culture of places we visit.

1pm 📍Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine, Largest Shrine in Japan 🙏🏻
- The deity of literature, learning and culture🎓. Many students around Japan will visit this shrine to pray for their exams so you will see lots of students in uniforms here. There’s a famous ox 🐂 statute with line-up to touch the head for wisdom & blessing 🌟. Our guide led us to a hidden ox statue with no queues 😊 My sis-inlaw who introduced Fukuoka to us, I can still remeber she was smiling fondly as she shared the photo of her touching the ox 🐂 and then gotten 1st place for her ACCA 👏 Motivating story 😁 that triggered our visit!
- Besides praying 🙏🏻, we explored 🚶 the retails along the paths to the shrine. There’s a Starbucks ☕️ uniquely designed by famous architect, more than 30 stores selling the traditional plum rice cakes and our best found gem 💎 -> “Dazaifu Burger 🍔& Fried Chicken Chikushi-An” , the Best Karaage Ever !!! I was never a karaage person & was delightfuly lured by the aroma to the shop 🤩
Here is pretty comprehensive history of Dazaifu Tenmangu, similar to the sharing of my guide.

3pm 📍 Shop at Tenjin underground shopping linked to Daimaru
6pm 📍 Yatai at Tenjin
- An iconic aspect of Fukuoka City's culinary scene and evening entertainment, yatai food stalls are a must-experience for anyone exploring the area. These mobile stalls, which typically accommodate 7-10 guests at a time, adorn the streets of vibrant districts like Nakasu, Tenjin, and Nagahama. By around 6pm, these districts come alive with bustling crowds eagerly queuing up at the most sought-after stalls. Within the cozy tented setups, patrons find themselves seated next to new acquaintances, relishing in the delectable offerings.
Having an experienced guide, Ms Kazue led us to a yatai where 7 of us could all be seated with about 15min wait. Time of visit & choice of yatai determine the queue duration which can take 1-2 hrs or longer.
7pm: Check-in The Onefive Villa Hotel
✔️ Newly renovated in 2020, modern and spacious
✔️ Complimentary Afternoon Tea Set for guest and the pastries were so delicious 😋
✔️ Affordable price $100-$120/night onwards
✔️ Excellent location
❌ Early Check-in not possible
❌ Adults age 12 & above consider Adult and the hotel only allow max 2 adults 1 child in a room.
For my next accommodation in Fukuoka trip, I would consider Grand Hyatt if we can do an early check-in or The Lively Fukuoka.
8pm 📍Explore Yatai at Nakasu
- Evening is the prime time for Yatai, bustling street filled with queues for delicious experience. Hubby and I strolled through the street and headed to Isomaru Suisan 磯丸水産 for seafood izakaya & hot sake. Verdict: We like Osaka’s better.
