Since Many of my friends have been asking me i thought i did do up something so i can just share it to them and let them refer to it whenever they need. This is just my personal encounter and preference, everyone can have different POV and are welcomed to share.

Travel Tips

🇰🇷South Korea

#1 Navigation Apps! 📍

- KakaoMap

- NAVER Map

I personally used both, just so to have a comparison when navigating. Also sometimes certain location only show up in either one of the app. On my previous trip i used a lot of KKmap, but for my upcoming trip I actually plan using the naver map. So it really depends which app you prefer or which interface is more suitable for you.

And yes, both also requires Korean address for ease of finding the location, but on NAVER some more “famous” place or location can be search up with the English name.

#2 Subway / Metro Apps ! 🚈

Kakao Metro

Korea Subway

I personally use the normal korea subway more as its simple and easy to use. But for the time where i went Busan, I found that the the kkMetro was continent as i can select the Busan only metro. So if only 1 to cover all i would say the kkMetro would be better.

#3 Taxi / Private hire (Transportation) 🚕

Kakao Taxi (personally tried n failed)

Uber

I personally didn’t have Uber, but my friend did. So if ur country have Uber or you have set up an Acc on Uber before hand, you can still use it in korea.

Else if you want to use kktaxi also possible, u may need a Korean number which you can buy when u arrived in korea or get e-sim with korea number. Choose the cash option when booking a taxi, as overseas credit card wouldn’t work. (This was based on close to 1 year ago when i tried kktaxi)

#4 Bus App 🚌

TBH, I didn’t touched this as all, but i guess u can still DL in case u may need it. Else i think you can do without it as the navigation app encompasses the bus and timing as well when navigating the routes.

#5 Food Related Apps! 🍽

I did try Food delivery app in Korea back then but it just didn’t work and i gave up on it. I think if you are here for vacation and want to try food delivery, can either get the hotel lobby to order for you or if you stay in an airbnb can get ur host to help you with it. If you have friends residing in korea, they can also help to order it for you.

Catch Table (Global)

Reminder to DL the global version as its in English and its cater to tourist/foreigners. This is good if there’s a certain restaurant you want to try, you can make a reservation so you ensure that you will have a spot. As sometimes some place might be full and your unable to try the food u have been planning for. Also the reviews on the app is so good, u can even see the price for some places.

#6 Translation App! 🗣

Papago

It’s very useful to translate the menus etc. You can use the normal google translate app, but i think this app is more accurate, as sometimes what G translate doesn’t make any sense.

#7 Attraction etc ⛱

Klook

This is where you can pre-book all your day trips and train ticket (arex& KTX) and also get ur e-sim and wifi etc.

#8 Money/ Travel Card💳 🤑

Trust Bank

REVOLUT

YouTrip

I used Revolut more and YouTrip sometimes. My friends uses Trust bank credit card and also Wise, which i heard is also not bad. This time round i added another card to serve as back up.

I do have to say that revolut recently allow to convert to WON as a “wallet” previously it was directly deducted from the SGD in the card based on the rate at the point of that transaction. But now we can convert the money in advance when the rate is good, so with this when u change the money from SGD to won, u can set a limit order when your money only changes when the exchange rate hits a certain amount.

For example recently i set the limit to 1 SGD to 1000 Won, although I know it have alway been 997/998/995 so was just trying my luck and it got exchanged, so even though it was at the rate for maybe a few seconds or min, you will still clutch on the exchange rate and get ur money exchanged.

(Edit: based on my most recent trip Apple Pay is more common now although some place still doesn’t have)
