Diagnosed with Hyperthyroidism in my 20s

“Why me? I have barely started having fun in life….”

The first symptom that surfaced was WEIGHT LOSS. I lost 5kg over 2 weeks. With about 11 people telling me “hey, you lost weight!”, I was proud of my “achievement”. I thought my consistent weekly exercise paid off. Little did I know, I have an underlying health issue. I was told to go for a blood test to have this checked.

Blood test result for Thyroid Simulating Hormone (TSH) and Free Thyroxine (FT4) came out and I was hit with the reality.

Other symptoms I experienced:

- Heart palpitation

- Anxiety

- Difficulty sleeping

- Heat Intolerance / Sweating

- Scant menstrual period

- Soft nails

- Outbreak of Hives & Rash

- Mood-swing

- Bulging eyes

Follow up:

I have been on medication ever since, I have going for blood test and review once a month, I have started taking supplement.

Result so far:

The doctor has reduced my medicine dosage from 20mg to 15mg and now to 10mg! I have been gaining back the weight I lost. Even though I still experience those symptoms above, I am able to cope with it.
