My Tooth Literally Ate Itself 🦷

In an effort to try and get over how loosing my tooth affected how I look, I wanted to talk about what happened!

When I was in high school I got hit in the face by a bully, and I remember it damaging my tooth. A decade later, my tooth spontaneously developed a cyst. No matter how much I brushed my teeth, flossed, used any kind of antibiotics, it didn’t go away. I brought this up to a dentist in my home state, and he didn’t seem concerned.

I moved to Cincinnati last year (2023) and was able to get better dental care. Around then, I struggled a lot with pain that began up in my nose, and developed a staph infection in the same tooth. I got really, really sick and went to the hospital, where they told me I was at risk of sepsis. I then had an emergency tooth extraction and we found out my tooth went through something called internal resorption because of the trauma I experienced as a teen.

ESSENTIALLY, my tooth began to reabsorb itself due to long standing unresolved trauma to my gums and actual root of my tooth. Since we didn’t have good dental or a lot of money (or support) at the time, the facial trauma never healed properly. Thanks guy who hit me in high school. LOL. I’m trying to get over how I look, because there’s a lot of stigma and media on people with missing front teeth and it’s a permanent change. I can’t afford a false tooth or denture right now, but maybe I can in the future! I don’t want my teeth to affect how people view me as a professional at work, and such. Hopefully it won’t!
