What should you know before going to the gym?
Here’s a few popular terms and pieces of equipment to help get you started. This isn’t EVERYTHING but the key to sticking with it is to start slow without overwhelming yourself 🫶🏻
TERMS:
-Reps: A single execution of an exercise. (Example: 1 rep of a push-up would be when you lower yourself down to the floor and push yourself back up to the straight arm position)
-Set: A set is a group of reps that you do without a break in between each rep. (Example: 3 sets of 15. You’ll do 15 reps without stopping THEN take a break before you do 15 more for a total of 3 times)
-Rest Time: The breaks you take between sets.
-Machine vs free weights: Machines are the exercise equipment with a set range of motion or cables. They are typically more beginner friendly. Free weights are weights that are not attached to anything and do not have a set range of motion. Things like the dumbbells or barbells.
