“𝙊𝙪𝙧 𝙨𝙝𝙤𝙥𝙥𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙝𝙖𝙪𝙡 𝙡𝙤𝙤𝙠𝙨 𝙙𝙞𝙛𝙛𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙩 - 𝙛𝙚𝙚𝙡𝙨 𝙢𝙤𝙧𝙚 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚 𝙖𝙣 𝙖𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙚’𝙨 😅” -𝙏𝙖𝙢𝙨

When we first joined Lemon8, there were a lot of Japan shopping haul posts in our FYP. Typically snacks/souvenirs or skincare, and mostly different from ours. Since we visited Japan so often after marriage, it seemed that our purchases “matured” over time as well haha. The Asian auntie in our mind is strategic with her purchases - only the most effective, the highest cost performance items, and/or special items. I don’t think we have ticked all the boxes perfectly yet, but here is us sharing our repeat and new purchases from the last trip to Hokkaido - we hope to inspire your next Japan purchases!

1️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗸𝗸𝗮𝗶𝗱𝗼 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

Each Japan prefecture have their own specialty souvenirs - like Tokyo with Tokyo Banana. Wherever you go to in Japan please check this out - it makes a fun try and souvenirs

Hokkaido’s has a lot to do with potatoes, corn, dairy, melon and lavender. We regularly buy the premium Jagabee, Oh Yaki Toukibi and Shiroi Koibito for regular consumption and gifting! Fortunately its available in Narita/Haneda as well. The variants (ie number of packages in a box) for Shiroi Koibito seems to be a bit different in Hokkaido though - in pic is 12-in-1 which we couldnt find in Narita

The Shiroi Koibito White Chocolate Pudding was a new product that is exclusive to Hokkaido at the moment. It tastes good but can not special - can skip if you are not a big pudding and/or shiroi koibito fan

🔖PROTIP: do note that Shiroi Koibito Park is not tax free - please get your Shiroi Koibito for gifting in the airport instead to save 💴💴💴

For the face mask lovers, LuLuLun also always have a specialty variant in each prefecture. I’m not a face mask girlie myself but a lot of people around me are, so this Hokkaido-exclusive Lavender + Melon variant in one pack makes the perfect souvenir. We only found this in 📍New Chitose Airport Mall

2️⃣ 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 𝗟𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝗻𝗮𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

We also love Japan for their seasonal limited edition items. For Summer its typically choco-mint and lemon - both of which Buns are diehard fans of.

KitKat, Koikeiya Potato Chips, Pocky, Hershey, Yukimi Daifuku Mochi Ice Cream are some of the household snacks that typically have seasonal flavours in Japan - look out for these in convenience stores and supermarkets

3️⃣ 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝘂𝗹𝘀𝗲 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 & 𝗕𝘂𝗰𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗟𝗶𝘀𝘁

Let’s do the Bucket List ones first - these are #Lemon8MadeMeBuyIt and other social media recommendations that we accumulated over time

🧦MUJIxLAWSON socks - only because Buns likes MUJI and loves LAWSON. She also wanted the Famima socks but Tams has successfully blocked it in this trip

🍞Kewpie Aohata Toast Spread - melon pan flavour & garlic bread flavour - i’m sure you have seen this one all over IG. Perhaps because we avoid Donki like a plague in Japan, we only managed to find the Melon Pan variant in a supermarket in Furano (and not in Tokyo, lol). We have tried it at home and IT REALLY WORKS 🎉 They also have Basil, Mentaiko, Garlic Shrimp and Sugar Butter flavours too

💦Lion Stain Remover - its SOOO HARD to find this - we finally did at an AEON supermarket in Sapporo. Have not tried but reviews are consistently good

🧂Ponzu Sauce, Dashi Shoyu - admittedly is more of a shopping list than bucket list 😅 if Buns has her way, she would have bought all the 10 variants of Japanese soy sauce in the supermarket. But we have limited space at home, so we are limited to 2-3 new condiments per trip

Ponzu is basically yuzu soy sauce - great for meat in hotpot and gives soy sauce a refreshing kick. The Mizkan brand in the pic is the #1 ponzu brand in Japan with the highest sales year on year

Dashi shoyu is soy sauce blended with dashi. Resulting soy sauce will taste less salty (than the Lee Kum Kee or other Chinese brands) and more umami. Supposedly if you use dashi soy sauce in Japanese recipes it will taste more authentic

Now onto the impulse purchase -

🈹BOUGHT COS DISCOUNT: Biore Z Anti Odour foot cream, UNLABEL LAB Vit C Spot Cream - we got this at 50-75% discount from Celule (outlet version of Cosme)

🏅BOUGHT COS HIGH RANKING: we went to Tsuruha Drug Kitahiroshima Omagari and they had an aisle showcasing products that ranked high in the strict Japanese drug ranking by category. Armed with the app Payke, we got:

1) the new EBIOS variant to make Buns less constipated 💩 these are essentially Yakult in tablet form and cheaper alternatives to Wakamoto. So far it seems to be working (daily toilet runs) but not sure how much is due to lifestyle change too

2) OneList All-in-One Day Cream - for the lazy girlie, it supposedly combine 7 skincare products in one so you save time on your busy mornings - sunscreen, toner, serum, foundation, makeup base, milky lotion, cream. Have yet to try but sounds promising

😋BOUGHT COS OF TASTERS: NekoChef cookies - there were tasters in Narita and the auntie was cute haha 😅 this brand was also viral in Japan social media a few years back. We love the cranberry camembert cookies (it tastes very strong) and may repurchase

4️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

We are lucky in Singapore because we can actually get these in Don Don Donki - but the prices in Japan are at least 50% cheaper than Donki’s prices and there are more variants

We are not too particular on condiment brands because the house brands in Japan are also really good

🔖PROTIP: for Japanese curry, its recommended to blend 2 roux of different flavour from different brands for a deeper flavour (source: Japanese friends, anime and J-drama)

Mini Chicken Ramen Noodles - harder to find in sg, we find the portion size is good for calorie control

5️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗮𝘁 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

These kept us alive through COVID (yes, we got our first and (so far) only COVID case while in Japan) and kept Buns alive through many bouts of sore throat (she has really sensitive throat). Highly recommended!

6️⃣ 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗲𝗮𝘁 𝗦𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗖𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

These ones consistently rank high in Japan Drug Rankings for a reason.

We usually switch up our facial wash, but the Rosette brand is in our rotation. It works better for us in minimising acne breakout than the very popular Senka Perfect Whip

Deonatulle Deodorant is our favourite. It smells fresh and not fragnant, in fact after you wear it you dont really smell much + you sweat less in the pits

7️⃣ 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝟭𝟬𝟬𝘆𝗲𝗻 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝗽 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

Yes you can buy similar items in Shopee, but the Japan 100yen shops’ are consistently cheaper (eg the hanging wire cabinet was going at $3-$4 in Shopee flash sale vs 110yen), more functional and higher quality

🔖PROTIP: CanDo, Seria, Daiso, Watts and the smaller 100yen shops carry similar but different variants from each other. Outlets within the same chain may carry different items because product selection is localised. Please don’t think going to multiple 100yen shops is a waste of time!

FYI: Seria do very cute ceramics, Daiso is doing extensive character collabs (eg Sanrio) but seems more expensive than the rest

8️⃣ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗗𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗻 𝗛𝗮𝘂𝗹

Buns is a huge Doraemon fan and she literally ran into the Doraemon WAKUWAKU SKY PARK Café . The products there are not as nice nor as complete as Doraemon Future Department Store in Tokyo, but the crane games have interesting stuffs. We won the stand light from a crane game. The limited edition soap was from the supermarket.

Will you be adding any of these to your shopping cart in the next Japan trip? Let us know in the comments! Let us know if you have any questions too!
