here are some of the books i've picked up in 2024 thus far — no regrets about any of them 💆🏻♀️ some were gifted to me, v thankful!
⭑ The Miracles of the Namiya General Store by Keigo Higashino | 4/5
this one's a slow but thought-provoking read! it's more towards the fantasy side but beautifully illustrates how acts of compassion, even the smallest ones, can create a ripple effect that touches many lives in unexpected ways 🪷 there's a movie for this and i'm trying to find where i can watch it!
📌 my fave thought-provoking quotes:
- "Faced with a blank map, who wouldn’t feel lost? It would puzzle anyone. A blank map means you can fill it in however you like. It’s entirely up to you. Everything is open; the possibilities are limitless."
- "Be a fighter. Give it everything you’ve got. Even a losing battle is worth fighting. Go out and make your mark."
⭑ Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom | 5/5
i finished this one in a single sitting! TWM sheds light on finding joy in the simplest things, appreciating the little things, and living each day with intention. a very powerful read if you're going through a tough time right now ❤️🩹
📌 just 3 of my many fave quotes:
- "The truth is, once you learn how to die, you learn how to live."
- "The most important thing in life is to learn how to give out love, and to let it come in."
- “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. They seem half-asleep, even when they're busy doing things they think are important. This is because they are chasing the wrong things.”
i read other Mitch Albom books like The Five People You Meet in Heaven & The Time Keeper...but i didn't really enjoy them...
⭑ Sweet Bean Paste by Durian Sukegawa | 4.5/5
the epitome of comfort...i cried reading this one. it deeply explores forgiveness and second chances through human connection. it also sheds light on a social stigma associated with leprosy, a disease, in Japan. highly recommend reading SBP! 🎐
📌 the most heart-warming quote:
- “All experience adds up to a life lived as only you could. I feel sure the day will come when you can say: this is my life.”
⭑ Welcome to the Hyunam-dong Bookstore by Hwang Bo-Reum | 3.5/5
still in the midst of reading but so far it's a 3.5 for me! definitely a light-hearted, relaxing read that brings a lot of solace. i think it'll be a good book to pick up if you're looking for something healing to read 💌
📌 i really like this quote:
- "Every one of us is like an island; alone and lonely. It's not a bad thing. Solitude sets us free, just as loneliness brings depth to our lives."
⭑ starting The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides next!

glad i read these books bc they opened up my perspectives on many things, and i highly recommend them to anyone!
i've also been loving Japanese and South Korean novels lately because their style of writing has a more subtle emotional depth 🥹 please recco more to me x
