I just finished reading RUDE by Rebecca Reid and it was a great book! I finished it in 2 days, and decided to showcase a few of my favorite parts from the book and the parts that hit me the hardest. I hope this helps someone in the same way it helped me become more assertive in everyday life to get the things i want. 🩷
* Men and women can do the same thing. However, with men, it's usually seen as assertive. with women, it's considered rude.
* Fear of being rude stems in childhood usually.
* we are the architects of our own oppression.
* men face conflict head on, where as women handle conflict in secret. Women tend to be not as bold.
* "that sounds really nice. i dont want to come." is totally valid
*sometimes friendships need breakups just like relationships do
* you are not an unpaid therapist; you have the right to set boundaries. BUT only if it works the other way around!
* don't allow your family to insult you just because you're related..
* sometimes family is the people you choose. blood isn't everything.
*confront your parents about the unhappy aspects of your childhood. this can help your adult relationship with your family.
* no one "deserves" your romantic attention.
* if your safety is on the line, RUN!! always trust your gut.
* you can always change your mind. especially when it comes to sex.
* "it is an invitation, not a summons." you have every right to stay home and watch tv if you don't wanna go to that party.
* polite complaints are totally okay.
* if you complain, say what you want fixed. otherwise what are you doing?
* if you lose your temper, you lose the argument.
* keep written records of anything important. especially when it comes to work. don't sell yourself short!
* Don't stretch yourself to afford something that someone else wants.
* your health is precious. don't let anyone tell you that you don't know your body!
