Hey friends! I’m writing this post from the beautiful city of Munich, Germany, where I’m lucky enough to be soaking in all the excitement of 🍻Oktoberfest🍻– the world’s largest beer festival. Whether you’re planning your first trip or just curious, I’ve gathered some practical tips from my experience so far. If you want to make the most out of your Oktoberfest adventure, here are five tips you absolutely need to know:

🤑1. Cash is King (and Bring Plenty of It)

Oktoberfest is a cash-only event, and trust me, you’ll be spending quite a bit if you plan to enjoy those famous Bavarian brews. A *maß* (the iconic 1-liter glass of beer) will run you about €15 – and that’s before you factor in tips for your server. It’s not just the beer that’ll need cash either. You’ll want money on hand for food (think delicious pretzels, sausages, and roast chicken), fun rides, and souvenirs. ATMs are available, but they’re often crowded and you don’t want to waste precious festival time waiting in line.

Pro Tip: Bring more cash than you think you’ll need. It’s better to be over-prepared than scrambling for an ATM later!

👗2. Invest in Proper Attire or Stick to Your Regular Clothes

One thing that stands out at Oktoberfest is the traditional Bavarian attire: *dirndls* for women and *lederhosen* for men. It’s a part of the culture and adds to the fun. If you want to blend in and fully embrace the tradition, invest in a good-quality outfit. But here’s the thing – don’t make the mistake of wearing a cheap, costume-store *dirndl* or *lederhosen* that you might find for Halloween. Germans take their traditional attire seriously, and showing up in something tacky or flimsy will earn you some dirty looks.

Pro Tip: If you don’t want to shell out for a traditional outfit, Trift it or Rent! Or just wear your regular clothes. It’s totally acceptable and much better than sporting a costume-version dirndl.

💃🏼3. Wear Shorts Under Your Dirndl

As Lemon8 is for the girls, this one’s for you! While wearing a dirndl can make you feel like a true Bavarian, don’t forget that Oktoberfest is like one giant state fair, complete with carnival rides and games. The festival grounds are massive, about the size of four football stadiums, and there’s no shortage of attractions to explore. From wild roller coasters to funhouse mirrors, there’s a lot to do beyond just drinking beer. You don’t want to miss out on the fun because you’re worried about your dress flying up!

Pro Tip: Slip on a pair of shorts underneath your dirndl. You’ll feel a lot more comfortable and confident knowing you can hop on any ride without a second thought.

4. Arrive Early to Secure a Seat

Oktoberfest is busy – like, *really* busy. If you’re hoping to sit in one of the famous beer tents (which you should, because that’s where the magic happens), you’ll want to arrive early. Even during the week, tents fill up fast, and on weekends, it’s even crazier. While there are some reserved tables, many are first-come, first-served, so getting there early ensures you’ll snag a seat before the crowds arrive.

Pro Tip: If you want a prime seat in one of the larger tents, try to get there before 10 a.m. That might sound early for beer, but trust me, the time flies and the atmosphere is infectious. Plus, you’ll thank yourself later when the place gets packed! If you want to know how to reserve a table ask me in the comments!

5. Pace Yourself and Stay Hydrated

With all the excitement and liters of beer flowing, it’s easy to get carried away at Oktoberfest. But here’s the thing: these maß are no joke! One maß holds a full liter of beer, and it’s stronger than your average brew. Oktoberfest beer typically has a higher alcohol content than the regular stuff, so it’s important to pace yourself. Take breaks, enjoy some of the amazing food, and remember to drink water throughout the day.

Pro Tip: Bring a reusable water bottle with you and refill it at the water stations scattered around the festival grounds. Drink water electro lights before going drinking and most definitely eat at the festival. You’ll thank yourself later, especially if you want to avoid a nasty hangover the next day!

It’s an incredible experience filled with delicious beer, hearty food, lively music, and fun rides. Whether you’re planning a trip or just dreaming about it, these tips will help you navigate the festival like a pro. Prost! 🍻
