I have been strength training for 9 years and coaching for 3….

Here are 3 gym phases I recommend you skip:

1) Avoiding exercises in fear of them making you “bulky” or “too manly”. I skipped upper body for 3 years and all that got me was jacked legs and flabby arms 😅 It was one of my biggest insecurities at the time so make sure you train your body evenly!

2) Doing 2-a-days just to lose weight or “tone up”. I used to do strength training AND intense cardio AND restrict my diet just to lose a few pounds. Not only was this exhausting and unhealthy, it didn’t even give me the results I wanted. Now, I take a more relaxed approach and I maintain a lean figure the majority of the time.

3) Lifting with bad form and/or never learning how to lift safely. I was lucky enough to learn the basics of most exercises from my older brother, but now that I am older and more experienced I see the true value in proper form. You are less likely to get injured and more likely to lift more weight (thus build more muscle!) with the correct form. If you could get a gym buddy or take the free PT sessions more gyms offer…. do it!

Just sharing so you don’t make the same mistakes I did!
