When I first started in tech, I created a goal for myself to make 6 figures by the time I made it to year 5 in my tech career. And even though my goal was 5 years, I actually reached my goal in less than half of that time and made my first 6 figures 2 years after I'd entered tech. Here's my journey below:
My first role in tech was as a software trainer and project manager for a health insurance company in 2017. I made $40,000 and had about 15 days of PTO (paid time off).
About 7 months later in 2018, I moved to a junior IT project manager role where I was making $67,000/year had about 21 days of PTO that rolled over into each new year, and was allowed to work remotely one day/week (and this was before Covid, so this was a huge perk for me at the time).
I stayed at this role for 1.5 years until I relocated to a new city in 2019 and took a role as a senior project manager with a health diagnostics company where I was making $106,000/year and had 28 days of PTO that also rolled over into each new year.
I stayed at this role for about a year and took a 100% remote with another healthcare company and I was making about $150,000/year.
