hi zesties π
as someone who used to gym alone and is now gymming more frequently with my partner, here are some pros & cons of gymming with your bf/gf for you to consider!

if your partner has more experience in the gym, youβll be able to learn a bunch of new things! zaf started gymming 5+ years before me π€ we started incorporating each otherβs exercises and i learnt so many new ones that i otherwise would probably not have tried eg. i didn't know how to properly sumo deadlift, do cable rows or lat raises beforehand. my workout plan has also been completely revamped now!
you also get a trainer whoβll help you correct your form, spotter to push you to greater heights and i picked up lots of tips/ cues that i still use till this day π₯Ή

when i gym alone, i tend to use my phone to scroll tiktok during my rest time, which is a pretty distracting habit because you can actually finish your workout much faster and also free up the equipment for anyone else who is waiting to use it.
from my experience, gymming with someone else means youβll be able to keep each other accountable by making sure we donβt rest for too long, stick to and finish whatever workout that was planned, and also motivate each other when weβre tired π€©

in my opinion, this is one of the best benefits of exercising together, especially for couples who work in different industries and have different interests. having a common activity that you both enjoy and spend time together doing each week is very important. it allows you to relate to each other through shared experiences and the act of completing an activity together (doesn't have to be working out) = bonding time!
you donβt have to follow the same workout as each other - even if you guys end up doing different exercises in opposite ends of the gym, just by travelling and going home together can count as quality time (catching up on each otherβs days, etc) as well if you make full use of it. of course, if your love language is not quality time then itβs alright π€

whenever i gym with zaf we're more likely to end up eating together afterwards, compared to when i gym alone (iβll just go home straight after). itβs much harder to control my cravings when we both love eating!! π€°π»π«π½ since we usually gym at night, iβll end up eating dinner before gym and then supper again at 11pm/ 12am afterwards. usually only mamaks or macs are open at this timing, which may not be the best if youβre on a diet... sometimes iβll end up feeling bloated till the next day πΆ
i would say try to do this in moderation - either eat dinner after, skip supper, or if you have to, cook at home together or eat something light π₯ͺ

gymming is an activity that some people prefer doing alone as they consider it as their own βme timeβ. there's nothing wrong with this, sometimes when iβm feeling pretty overwhelmed iβd rather put on my airpods and gym alone to sit in my own thoughts/ clear my head/ destress. also, gymming alone means you donβt have to wait for others to finish their exercise in order to move on. you also wonβt be distracted/ end up talking.
for me, i donβt always gym together with zaf so it works out! if you need time to yourself (which everyone does), itβs important to discuss this to make sure that everyoneβs needs are met πΈ
hope this post helps! do let me know if there's any other pros and cons that i missed out
till then,
zoey xx
