Just came back from my summer vacation in Japan and had lots of fun shopping in Japan because of the extremely favorable exchange rate!

Here are some great places to check out in Osaka:

Shinsaibashi 💛

Shinsaibashi-suji is a long shopping street with major retailers such as H&M, Zara, Uniqlo, GU, GAP, Onitsuka Tiger, Lush, Daimaru, PARCO, lots of drug stores, and also smaller shops and restaurants.

There’s also lots of other malls, stand-alone luxury boutiques, sports stores, restaurants etc. in the area.

Amerika-Mura

West of Shinsaibashi. Not quite my thing, but if you’re looking for street style clothing, this is the place to be at. There’s lots of vintage clothing shops, sports stores, etc. There’s quite a lively vibe to the place.

Namba

South of Shinsaibashi, this is an area with large malls like 0101 Marui (check out Luck Rack on 2F for discounted off season fashion), Namba Parks, Namba City, underground mall Namba Links, Takashimaya department store, etc. There’s also a huge BIC Camera store here.

If you’re looking for interesting kitchenware, check out the Sennichimae Doguyasuji Shopping Street.

Dotonbori

In between Shinsaibashi & Namba. This is an entertainment area with lots of eateries, and interesting signboards. There’s also a huge Don Quijote (Donki) here but it’s really crowded.

Umeda 💛

Centred around the Osaka Station / Umeda Station.

There’s a few prominent shopping malls such as Lucua Osaka (more fashion & lifestyle), Yodabashi Camera (everything from electronics to hobby stuff, watches, alcohol, beauty products, etc) + Links Umeda (lots of wallet friendly fashion brands, sports & lifestyle stores here)💛 + HEP 5 (more youth fashion), Grand Front Osaka (upscale shopping), Umeda EST (trendy fashion stores, Threepy & Standard Products)💛, Eki Marche (underground shopping & dining around the JR)…

There’s also several department stores around the station - Hankyu, Daimaru, Hanshin and Mitsukoshi-Isetan.

Do also check out the Chayamachi area with standalone stores like Zara, Uniqlo flagship, LOFT also lots of smaller stores, thrift stores, restaurants etc.

Tennoji Ward

Centered around the Tennoji and Abeno stations. There’s several large malls here such as Abeno Q’s (large local mall)💛, Tennoji MIO (mostly fashion & lifestyle)💛 and Abeno Harukas (upscale shopping)

Shinsekai

Interesting bustling district, but more for food and entertainment, similar to Dontonbori. There’s a Mega Donki here.

Tenjinbashi-suji Shopping Street the longest Arcade in Japan

Longest shopping street in Japan. Mostly smaller and more traditional shops and restaurants. I’ve been there once in 2017 but don’t think it’s wow.

- -

Rinku Town

Near Kansai airport, so it’s good to drop by before/after your flight. There’s a Rinku Premium Outlet Mall, Seacle shopping mall and Aeon shopping mall.

- -

I highly recommend the following shops if you’re looking for…:

⛑️ Drug Stores - Kawaraya Drug North Shinsaibashi - they are one of the cheapest and have a good range of the popular beauty and health products. They do tax refunds and have super helpful staff!

🍓 Fruits - 大阪青果 at Kuromon Market. Their fresh fruits and vegetables are really cheap.

🛒 Supermarket - Tamade Supermarket (discount supermarket chain across Osaka), or AEON Food Style (they’ve got a good range of snacks + do tax refunds)

👗 Fashion - chains such as Uniqlo, GU, Zara, H&M are much cheaper in Japan generally. Japanese brands such as Park, Earth Music & Ecology, Honeys, Global Work, Rope Picnic, Nice Claup etc. offer affordable Japanese style.

👠 Shoes - ABC Mart for sneakers. Diana or Oriental Traffic for heels or sandals.

👚 Thrift stores - 2nd Street, Kindal, BookOff Plus
