Fall Trip Idea: Jim Thorpe, PA

You may or may not have heard of Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania located in the Poconos a few hours away from NYC.

Is a very popular fall destination thanks to the Lehigh Gorge Railroad that offers riders an insanely scenic tour through the mountains and fall foliage.

We didn’t ride the train because September is a bit early for the leaves to change but some of the leaves did already turn!

Major tip: if you don’t drive into town super early you may hit a bit of traffic as you approach the town center. There was 0 street parking when we went but don’t panic, there are several public parking lots. They cost about $20 for the day.

There are 2 Jim Thorpe streets with shops. Broadway and Race. Broadway is like the Main Street and Race cuts around the back of Broadway. It gives you some insane views of the mountains in the background and has some really cool

mythical and hippie themed stores. Great street for a photo op.

Broadway has more stores and restaurants. Muggles Mug, Soundcheck Records, the Bookshop, and the Antique Store were my faves.

Overall I would highly recommend this town for a day trip if you live within a few hours away. Definitely do the train ride if you can book it in advance. It looks so cool. I wouldn’t stay here overnight due to the fact the town is so small you could easily explore it all in one afternoon.
