I had to #BeReal when it comes to my experience with my health issues.

🎀 Age 15 - Hyperthyroidism first detected as I always get fast heart beat, blurry vision when I start to run, and there was once I almost lost my vision after a run. I could not see anything infront of me.

🎀 Age 18 - Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) & Hyperthyroidism relapse. While in Poly, I often had episodes of blurry vision due to fast heartbeat. My menses cramp was terribly painful till the point I had to sitdown at the stairs as I was sweating so badly from the pain.

What treatment was done for Hyperthyroidism? I took radioactive iodine to kill off all my thyroid gland. Yes, I don’t have thyroid gland now, which is why I will need to rely on long term medication to ensure I have balance thyroid hormone.

How did DVT happen? I took 5 flight of stairs back to my class in Poly.

What went wrong? Leg starts to swell up like a pig trotter

Why did this happen?

When did I seek treatment? After the swelling happen, I could not bend my leg or even straighten it to walk. I was always limping and this lasted for about 3 days. That was when I went to the polyclinic to seek medical attention.

What did doctor say? “If you had not come in earlier, you could have die.” I was sent to the A&E immediately. As the blood clot was highly dangerous, if it started to spread and move to my heart, I could have die. 💀 I was also one of my Specialist doctor’s youngest patient in history 😳

🎀 Age 23 - Ovarian Cyst

I was having long term pain during menses. I did not seek medical advice because once the GP told me to not act like that in future to get MC. 🤡 (never went back to him ever again)

One day while I was having my meal, I suddenly felt the sharp pain on my lower left side of my tummy. I ignore the signs but the pain grew even stronger as the day went by. It affected my daily work.

After 1 week of bearing the pain, I went to GP and they prescribed muscle relaxation medication. Which obviously did not help 🫠

Had to go to the A&E hospital as I was afraid that it could be worse. Indeed, it was bad and they had to do a virginal scan to figure out what was it.

They saw 4cm blood cyst, and 4cm water cyst on my left ovarian. It was heavy and pushing on me which caused the pain.

I had to opt for surgery to remove it as it was really painful and affecting my lifestyle.

Recovery period was really tough too. I had to take multiple medications to avoid infection, I had fever at one point of time. Which is why I was sent to the HDU for monitoring.

My family and boyfriend came multiple times to visit and supported me. It was really tough and I had so much negative thoughts that why are all these things happening to me? I don’t deserve to have such health problems to handle. 🫣

🎀 Moving forward 10yrs later. I am still on daily medication in the morning. One for hyperthyroidism, One for Blood Clot.

So girlies who are going through this or have similar problems, let’s chat. Share your stories and thoughts 🫧 I would love to hear them! ❤️
